Having pulled off a death-defying escape from Tweedy's farm, Ginger has finally found her dream - a peaceful island sanctuary for the whole flock, far from the dangers of the human world. When she and Rocky hatch a little girl called Molly, Ginger's happy ending seems complete. But back on the mainland the whole of chicken-kind faces a new and terrible threat. For Ginger and her team, even if it means putting their own hard-won freedom at risk - this time, they're breaking in.

Did you know ... ?

  1. Julia Sawalha and Mel Gibson did not reprise their respective roles as Ginger and Rocky. Gibson was not cast due to his past controversies, while Sawalha was told her voice now sounds "too old", a decision she criticized as ageist. Timothy Spall (Nick) and Phil Daniels (Fetcher) were also recast, as well as Benjamin Whitrow (Fowler), who passed away in 2017. However, Jane Horrocks, Imelda Staunton, Lynn Ferguson, and Miranda Richardson did return as Babs, Bunty, Mac, and Mrs. Tweedy.
  2. This sequel is released after the deaths of Tony Haygarth and Benjamin Whitrow (the voices of Mr. Tweedy and Fowler respectively) in 2017 the same year as Peter Sallis (original voice of Wallace in the Wallace & Gromit series).
  3. Despite Aardman deeming Julia Sawalha too old, her replacement, Thandiwe Newton is just four years younger.
  4. According to visual effects supervisor Nick Park, the stop-motion animation used throughout the film was more complex than anything Aardman had done before.

  6. Back in July 2000, Arthur Sheriff, a spokesman for Bristol-based Aardman Animation said there is little possibility of a sequel. "We are not going to consider a Chicken Run II. The studio [DreamWorks]'s next movie will be an Aardman version of the Aesop Fable The Tortoise and the Hare - a Tortoise and the Hare meets Spinal Tap..." Sheriff said Aardman had also planned a feature version of the Wallace & Gromit shorts. (That eventually became Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005)) "Those productions will occupy us for at least the next five years," he said. "There is of course pressure for a Chicken Run sequel but right now it would be impossible."
  7. Fowler is the first character in an Aardman film to be recast.
  8. Zachary Levi's second animated sequel where he voices a character he did not originate in the original film. He previously replaced Ben Stiller as Larry Daley in Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again (2022). In this sequel, Levi replaces Mel Gibson as the voice of Rocky.
