London film premieres

Fast X London film premiere 2023

The end of the road begins. Fast X, the tenth film in the Fast and Furious Saga, launches the final chapters of one of cinema's most storied and popular global franchises, now in its third decade and still going strong with the same core cast and characters as when it began. Over many missions and against impossible odds, Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his family have outsmarted, out-nerved and outdriven every foe in their path. Now, they confront the most lethal opponent they've ever faced: A terrifying threat emerging from the shadows of the past who's fueled by blood revenge, and who is determined to shatter this family and destroy everything-and everyone-that Dom loves, forever. In 2011's Fast Five, Dom and his crew took out nefarious Brazilian drug kingpin Hernan Reyes and decapitated his empire on a bridge in Rio De Janeiro. What they didn't know was that Reyes' son, Dante (Aquaman's Jason Momoa), witnessed it all and has spent the last 12 years masterminding a plan to make Dom pay the ultimate price. Dante's plot will scatter Dom's family from Los Angeles to the catacombs of Rome, from Brazil to London and from Portugal to Antarctica. New allies will be forged and old enemies will resurface. But everything changes when Dom discovers that his own 8-year-old son (Leo Abelo Perry, Black-ish) is the ultimate target of Dante's vengeance. Directed by Louis Leterrier (Clash of the Titans, The Incredible Hulk), Fast X stars returning cast members Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Jason Statham, John Cena and Scott Eastwood, with Oscar® winner Helen Mirren and Oscar® winner Charlize Theron. The film also features an extraordinary new cast including Oscar® winner Brie Larson as Tess, a rogue representative from the Agency; Alan Richtson (Reacher) as Aimes, the new head of the Agency who doesn't hold the same fondness for Dom's crew as his predecessor, Mr. Nobody; Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad) as a Brazilian street racer with a powerful tie to Dom's past; and legendary Oscar® winner Rita Moreno as Dom and Mia's Abuelita Toretto. Fast X is produced by Neal H. Moritz, Vin Diesel, Justin Lin, Jeff Kirschenbaum and Samantha Vincent. The executive producers are Joseph M. Caracciolo, Jr., David Cain, Chris Morgan, Amanda Lewis and Mark Bomback.

Did you know ... ?

  1. The word family is said 56 times in this film.
  2. Michelle Rodriguez and Charlize Theron filmed their fight scene without a director.
  3. When Jakob tells little Brian that he has friends in high places, that was likely a nod to the late Paul Walker: his daughter Meadow Walker plays the Flight Attendant who assist them on their mission.
  4. Dwayne Johnson reprises his role as Hobbs in a mid-credits scene. This came as a surprise, after multiple years of Johnson claiming that the eighth installment was the last for Hobbs due to his ongoing beef with Vin Diesel since the production of The Fate of the Furious (2017), which also started troubles with Tyrese Gibson. There seemed to have been some reconciliation in September 2019 when Johnson publicly thanked Diesel for his support of Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019), yet in November 2021, he was still adamant that there was "no chance" of a return. After the release of Fast X, Louis Leterrier told The Hollywood Reporter that after they had finished the movie, they reached out to Johnson to come and watch it, in the hopes that he would be persuaded to join future installments. Fortunately, Johnson loved the movie, and agreed to film a mid-credits cameo. He later posted a message, saying that he already reconciled with Diesel in the summer of 2022, and signed on for a separate Hobbs-centered movie that will bridge the gap between Fast X and Fast 11 (tentatively called Fast X.5).
  5. The movie's budget was reported to be around $280 million - $300 million, however it was revised to be approximately $340 million, according to individuals with knowledge of the production. That's 70% more than the reported $200 million budget for F9: The Fast Saga (2021), making Fast X easily the most expensive entry in the franchise.
  6. The film was first said to be the first part of the series' two-part finale, but is now confirmed to be the first of a three part finale. Vin later said that Fast 11 will now be the final part of the series.
  7. Gal Gadot returns at the very end as Gisele, who shows up to rescue Cipher & Letty from the Agency's most remote black site in Antarctica (possibly working with Cipher), in a full-size submarine similar to the one Cipher attempted to steal from Russia in The Fate of the Furious (2017) (but which subsequently blew up). Gisele was presumed to be dead at the end of Fast & Furious 6 (2013), after she dropped herself from a moving plane onto the runway below in order to save Han. Many F&F fans started a campaign to bring Gisele back after Han was also revealed to be alive in F9: The Fast Saga (2021), reasoning that since Owen Shaw (Luke Evans) survived an even nastier fall from the same plane, Gisele could have reasonably survived too. Director Louis Leterrier revealed that Gisele's cameo was not a spontaneous last-minute addition resulting from a "Justice for Gisele" fan campaign, but was already planned for years. Some claim that it was foreshadowed in F9: The Fast Saga (2021), where Mr. Nobody was revealed as Gisele's former employer. Later, when Han complimented Mr. Nobody on faking his death, he shrugged it off with "I've done better", implying he may have faked Gisele's death as well.
  8. On November 7th, 2021. Vin Diesel posted a picture on Instagram of Dwayne Johnson, about ending their fight and trying to bring him back to the Fast family for the last chapter(s).
  9. Actor Sung Kang suggested that fans start a hashtag campaign like they did with "Justice for Han" to bring back Gal Gadot's Gisele for this installment.
  10. On 2 May 2022, it was confirmed that Louis Leterrier would be replacing Justin Lin as the director of the film. Lin stepped down from directing duties on April 27, roughly one week after filming commenced, reportedly due to conflicts with Vin Diesel. He would still be receiving writing and producing credits, though.
  11. The movie ends with a cliffhanger for a second-part finale, expected for 2025. However, Vin Diesel suggested that it could be a trilogy finale, with three movies instead two. When the movie came out Vin then said that the movie will now be a 3 part movie, but the real end of the series will now be Fast 11.
  12. There is a scene between Han and Dom where they both say to each other "Los Bandoleros for life" which is a reference to the 2009 short film "Los Bandoleros" which is a prequel to the fourth movie installment directed by Vin Diesel, involving the assembling of Dom's crew in the Dominican Republic to hijack the fuel tanker.
  13. Paul Walker's brothers confirmed they will not reprise their former fill-in roles.
  14. The first full trailer for the movie explains why Dante has a grudge against Dom. In keeping with Fast & Furious tradition, Dante's out for revenge after Dom and his crew injured & killed members of his family, specifically the villains from Fast Five (2011). This mirrors Deckard Shaw's character motivation in Furious 7 (2015), getting vengeance for his brother who was nearly killed by Dom's crew at the end of Fast & Furious 6 (2013). Also in keeping with Fast & Furious tradition, the ending of Fast Five (2011) was retconned to incorporate Dante into it. This was done twice with The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006) in the scene showing Han's presumed death: first in Furious 7 (2015), to show Deckard's first act of vengeance, and then again in F9: The Fast Saga (2021), to show that Mr. Nobody faked Han's death.
  15. Although Brian O'Conner is supposed to be still alive, Dante never mentions him in the movie and is never seen making plans to kill him, while he and Toretto were both the brains to destroy his father Hernan Reyes. In the same way, Brian is absent in the family lunch at the beginning. The character of Brian indeed still exists within the story and is referred to often, as a tribute to the deceased Paul Walker, but no longer plays a part in the narrative for obvious reasons. He is supposedly somewhere else, taking care of his and Mia's two children while Mia is on mission.
  16. Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster are the only actors left from the first film of the saga. Diesel is also the only one to have appeared in all films but 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003), although he is briefly mentioned.
  17. The reason that Little Brian is uncomfortable in a plane is undoubtedly due to the events of The Fate of the Furious (2017), where he was tossed around in a plane as a baby.
  18. This movie marks the return of Scott Eastwood as Little Nobody, after his absence from F9: The Fast Saga (2021). He previously appeared in The Fate of the Furious (2017). Oddly enough, in the movie, his boss, Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russell), is still absent after having disappeared without a trace in F9: The Fast Saga.
  19. On an Instagram post on September 2022, Brie Larson revealed her character's name to be Tess. Fans speculated that she might be playing Brian O'Conner's sister in the film. While Tess & Brian look somewhat alike, Tess turns out to be Mr. Nobody's daughter and working for the covert Agency he ran before he disappeared in F9: The Fast Saga (2021). Her remarks in this movie suggest that Mr. Nobody is alive and in hiding.
  20. In September 2022 the cast and crew returned to Puerto Rico for the first time since the filming of Fast Five (2011) took place, with scenes being filmed in the Teodoro Moscoso bridge and parts of San Juan.
  21. In an interview with Esquire Middle East, director Louis Leterrier revealed more of this movie, including his approach and how it differs from Lin's in F9. "What I wanted to do on this one, because it's very much my style, was to ground it more in reality. I wanted to -no pun intended -land it back on Earth. They went into space in number nine, and I was like, 'okay, they went to space, there's no way I can top that.' But what I can do is do stuff that we've never done before practically, such as rolling a one-ton bomb -an actual one ton metal ball in the streets of Rome, and hope not to destroy the Colosseum."
  22. The characters shown in the trailer at the Toretto family barbecue are Dom, Letty, Mia, Tej, Roman, Han, Ramsey, "little" Brian, and Rita Moreno's matriarch, subsequently revealed to be Dom & Mia's abuela (grandmother). There's an apparent empty space next to Mia's spot at the table, presumably edited that way to avoid a surprise reveal, though in the finished film, no one is sitting in the chair. This chair is probably meant for Brian, and kept empty in memory of the late Paul Walker.
  23. The Fast & Furious series' timeline is famously convoluted, with the fourth, fifth and sixth installments taking place before Han's "death" (later discovered to be faked) in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006), the third installment which debuted in 2006; the seventh installment embedded Han's death into its narrative, and the following movies all take place after Tokyo Drift. However, this movie at least attempts to get the timeline right: the six-year time jump between this film and the previous installment covers both the pandemic-related production delays as well as, per the studio's plot synopsis, Dom's son "Little Brian" now being nine years old. Aimes also notes in his introduction to Tess that the saga began in 2001 when Brian (then an LAPD cop) was tasked with taking down a street-theft ring; that's the actual year the series debuted.
  24. According to the movie's official synopsis released by the studio, Kurt Russell's Mr. Nobody has been replaced by Alan Ritchson's character Aimes, who's now Little Nobody's boss and not a fan of Dom and his crew. The opening of F9: The Fast Saga (2021) showed Jakob orchestrating Mr. Nobody's plane crash in a Central American jungle - and sending Dom's crew an SOS message shortly before the crash - but he was gone by the time Dom & crew arrived, and his whereabouts appear unknown. Brie Larson's character Tess is described as a "rogue operative" who's also part of Mr. Nobody's anonymous "Agency."
  25. One of the cars shown in Deckard Shaws garage is the Flip car his brother drove in Fast and Furious 6.
  26. The film's cast includes 4 Oscar winners: Rita Moreno, Charlize Theron, Helen Mirren and Brie Larson.
  27. After playing video games with Mia, Little B says to her "It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning's winning." This is a callback to what his father Dom said to Brian after their race in The Fast and The Furious(2001).
  28. Marks the return of Jason Statham as Deckard Shaw, who previously appeared in an uncredited cameo for a post-credits scene in F9: The Fast Saga (2021), which now appears as part of a longer scene in Fast X.
  29. The cars shown in the main trailer are two of Dom's longtime rides (a 2022 four-door Dodge Charger Hellcat & vintage two-door one); a 1970-vintage Chevelle SS, which Dom's building with Little B; Dante's 1960s-era Chevy Impala SS; and Han in a 1970s-era Alfa Romeo GTV, painted in his character's trademark orange & black.
  30. Marks the return of Luis Da Silva Jr. as Diogo twelve years after his appearance in Fast Five (2011).
  31. Both actors Jason Momoa and Alan Ritchson played Arthur Curry/Aquaman. Momoa played him Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), Justice League (2017), Aquaman (2018), Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021) and the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023), while Ritchson played him in the TV series Smallville (2001).
  32. On April 2022, Vin Diesel announced on Instagram that Brie Larson was joining the cast in an undisclosed role.
  33. In an interview with Esquire Middle East, director Louis Leterrier went on to talk about the practical effects and physical stunts being utilized in the movie saying: "Obviously we had visual effects help, but we just needed to keep everything grounded in the practical. The visual effects were mainly for safety and scope, but we needed the basis to stay in our reality. Without that, it would become too much. I wanted it to feel like Fast 1, Fast 3, and Fast 5 -- movies that feel grounded. That is my style, and everyone accepted that, so everyone was really on board. Everyone was excited to re-explore physical stunts."
  34. This will be Jason Statham's sixth portrayal as Deckard Shaw after Fast & Furious 6 (2013), Furious 7 (2015), The Fate of the Furious (2017), the spin-off Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019), and F9: The Fast Saga (2021) (his appearances in Fast & Furious 6 and F9: The Fast Saga being cameos).
  35. Released on the 20th anniversary of 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003).
  36. When Aimes and Little "Miss" Nobody are discussing the things Dom and his family have done, the screens show footage of events in past movies that would be impossible for them to have.
  37. Jason Statham and Helen Mirren return as Deckard Shaw and his mother Queenie. Luke Evans, who played, Owen Shaw in Fast & Furious 6 (2013), is not mentioned but is assumed to be alive; he was seen in the prologue of Furious 7 (2015) in a coma, but after his recovery, he assisted his brother Deckard and Toretto in The Fate of the Furious (2017) in rescuing Little Brian from Cipher.
  38. After the gang is robbed of their bank accounts by Dante Reyes, Roman pulls out money strapped inside his clothes. This is a throwback to 2 Fast 2 Furious when Roman stole money from Carter Verone at the end of the film and tucked it inside his pants.
  39. Both David Leitch who directed the spin-off, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019) and F. Gary Gray who directed the eighth film, The Fate of the Furious (2017), were being considered to replaced Justin Lin before the job went to Louis Leterrier.
  40. Louis Leterrier was previously considered to direct The Fate of the Furious (2017) before F. Gary Gray got the job. Fast X reunites Leterrier with Jason Statham, with whom he made The Transporter (2002) and Transporter 2 (2005)
  41. Brie Larson said working on the film was a dream come true.
  42. In November 2021, Dwayne Johnson himself stated that he would not be appearing in any more Fast & Furious movies after his falling out with Vin Diesel during The Fate of the Furious (2017). Johnson stood by his words, despite an emphatic and public plea from Diesel, which Johnson brushed off as "manipulation", stating that even though the tensions have decreased, several months before he had been "firm yet cordial with my words and said that I would always be supportive of the cast and always root for the franchise to be successful, but that there was no chance I would return."
  43. Daniela Melchior plays Isabel, who is revealed to be Elena (Elsa Pataky)'s younger sister. Elena had an important role in Fast Five (2011), Fast & Furious 6 (2013) and Furious 7 (2015) as a Brazilian police woman who with time she fell in love with Toretto after Letty's apparent death in Fast & Furious (2009), and mother of child Little Brian with Toretto. After Letty is revealed to be alive, Elena and Toretto split. Eventually she was killed by Cipher in The Fate of the Furious (2017).
  44. This is the eleventh film in history to cost $300 million or more, after Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007), Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015), Justice League (2017), Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019), and Avatar: The Way of Water (2022).
  45. The 'Tiny Tej' RC car can be heard saying "Alright alright fire 'em up!" This was Ludacris' very first line in the Fast franchise and is also the opening line of 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003).
  46. One indication that Aimes is a double agent working for Dante is when he mentions to Dom that his team is headed to Portugal. Dom never told anyone besides his team where they were suppose to convey and Aimes never would've known this as he did not use God's Eye to track the gang after the botched mission in Rome.
  47. The movie's increased budget was due to tax-incentives, which can be blamed on numerous elements such as increased salaries for series star Vin Diesel and the rest of the franchise's ensemble cast. General increases in production costs are caused by global inflation and mainly charges for pandemic testing requirements mandated by COVID-19 safety protocols.
  48. Filming commenced late April, 2022.
  49. Before Louis Leterrier was named as Justin Lin's replacement, the studio searched for directors including James Wan (who direct the seventh film), Anthony and Joe Russo, Peyton Reed and Rawson Marshall Thurber.
  50. In the Portugal tunnel car chase scene, Dante (Jason Mamoa) follows closely behind Jakob (John Cena) and Little Brian (Leo Abelo Perry). As the two chase cars enter the frame, the sound of Star Wars Tie Fighters can be heard.
  51. While John Cena's character Jakob Toretto is driving his nephew, Little Brian, he starts to play the song "Good Vibrations" by Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. Marky Mark later became a prolific actor, who's real name is Mark Wahlberg, and Cena played a small cameo in the Wahlberg comedy Daddy's Home (2015), as both Cena and Wahlberg are Boston natives. Wahlberg also co-starred together with Jason Statham (Deckard Shaw) and Charlize Theron (Cypher) in The Italian Job (2003) (helmed by The Fate of the Furious (2017) director F. Gary Gray), and as part of an in-joke during the spin-off Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019), Deckard Shaw points at a Mini Cooper while stating "used it for a job over in Italy."
  52. This will be Vin Diesel's ninth portrayal as Dominic Toretto, after The Fast and the Furious (2001), The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006), Fast & Furious (2009), Fast Five (2011), Fast & Furious 6 (2013), Furious 7 (2015), The Fate of the Furious (2017), and F9: The Fast Saga (2021).
  53. Portugal has deep roots in Fast X, not only does most of the finale of the film take place in Portugal But both Daniela Melchior (Isabel) & Joaquim de Almeida (Hernan Reyes) are Portugal born natives, Joaquim was born in the capital Lisbon, while Daniela was born across the river in Almada, the outskirts of Lisbon. both play Brazilian born characters in the Fast Saga. Also, Jason Mamoa (Dante Reyes) Plays the son of Joaquim De Almeida who in the film is born in Portugal. Another interesting fact, The famous Dam scene takes place on Aldeadávila Dam which actually sits on both borders of Portugal & Spain.
  54. Jason Momoa is the third Aquaman (2018) alum to join the Fast & Furious franchise after director James Wan, who directed the seventh installment: Furious 7 (2015) and Alan Ritchison, who played Aquaman, in a way, in Smallville.
  55. The license plate of Shaw's car reads RO4D RGE..."Road Rage".
  56. The code for Jason Statham's lair is the same as the code for his car in "The Transporter". (1732)
  57. Vin Diesel, Daniela Melchior, and Pete Davidson all appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which was also released in May 2023.
  58. The movie features some DC actors: John Cena (Jakob) played Christopher Smith/Peacemaker in The Suicide Squad (2021) and Peacemaker (2022), Alan Ritchson (Ames) played Arthur Curry/Aquaman in the TV series Smallville (2001), while Daniela Melchior (Isabel) played Cleo Cazo/Ratcatcher 2 in The Suicide Squad (2021), Gal Gadot played Wonder Woman in Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman 1984, and Shazam: Fury of the God's, and Helen Mirren (Queenie) played Hespera inShazam! Fury of the Gods (2023). Also Jason Momoa played Aquaman
  59. Reunites John Cena with Daniela Melchior after The Suicide Squad (2021). However, they don't share a scene.
  60. A man being beaten up inside a punch bag also featured in Die Another Day (2002).
  61. Tess is revealed to be Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russell)'s daughter. Both actors were in MCU, where Russell played Ego in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) and Larson played Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel mainly in Captain Marvel (2019), Avengers: Endgame (2019) and The Marvels (2023).
  62. Jason Momoa and Nathalie Emmanuel both starred in the series Game Of Thrones (2011) as Khal Drogo and Missandei, respectively. Their characters never shared a scene, or were even featured in the same season.
  63. The weapons the 'Agency' operatives are using throughout the film are the same BCM carbines (noted by the foregrips and stocks) as seen in 'The Tomorrow War'.
  64. During the confrontation between Dom's and Dante's groups in Rio Dom's 'troops' have Taurus PT-92s with stainless steel bodies while Dante's side has traditional blued/blacked ones.
  65. Dominic is nicknamed "Saint Dominic". St Dominic is the patron of astronomers and natural scientists. The Saint drivers pray for protection is Saint Christopher.
  66. Alan Ritchson (Aimes) and Brian Tee (DK from The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)) both appeared in Paramount's live-action adaptation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Ritchson served as motion-capture and voice actor of Raphael, while Tee played the turtles arch-nemesis The Shredder.
  67. At 1:08:25 in Jason Momoa looks right at the camera for a split second.
  68. At about the 1h38 marker you can see Shaw get into a beautiful red McLaren Senna who's license plate reads R04D RGE
  69. Costing $340 million, this was the most expensive film of 2023.
  70. Jason Momoa and Sung Kang previously appeared together on Bullet to the Head (2012).
