- Despite being set in Bali, Indonesia, the film was filmed in Queensland, Australia.
- After doing the romantic comedy One Fine Day (1996), George Clooney said he would never do any more rom-coms, and that he'd only do dramas, mostly with a social message. This is the first full-blown rom-com he's done since then.
- The fifth film for co-stars George Clooney and Julia Roberts after Ocean's Eleven (2001), Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002), Ocean's Twelve (2004), and Money Monster (2016).
- This film marks the Hollywood debut for Indonesian actor Maxime Bouttier.
- George Clooney's character makes a comment about an "age appropriate date". This is a reference to Clooney himself who has a long history of being romantically linked with significantly younger woman. His wife, Amal Clooney, is seventeen years younger than he.
- In the Oceans movies that George Clooney and Julia Roberts made, they played a divorced couple who end up getting remarried.
- When George Clooney calls Julia Roberts, in the German Version "ER" appears on her mobile phone. This results in an additional joke for German audiences because while "ER" is the German translation for "he", it also references Clooney's famous role in ER (1994).
- When Working Title Films was piecing the film together with the casting of Clooney and Roberts, various streaming services were circling the film and were interested in buying it. - Georgia, played by Julia Roberts, hates surprises. In Notting Hill (1999) the character Anna Scott, also played by Roberts, hates surprises as well.
- Julia Roberts starred in My Best Friend's Wedding (1997), which was also about her unsuccessfully attempting to break up a marriage.
- During the gag reel end credits, Lucas Bravo (Paul) is seen wearing an Adam West-style Batman (1966) costume in front of George Clooney. The latter starred in Batman & Robin (1997) as the Caped Crusader.
- In the gag reel at the end, the flight attendant spills the champagne all over George Clooney. Julia Roberts says, "It's just George Clooney we have another one". George Clooney jokes and says, "1-800-Brad-Pitt!" This is a reference to Ocean's Eleven. The three starred in the film together and Clooney and Roberts had a similar situation in their relationship.
